New MikroTik configuration using WinBox

Prerequisites and authority

Network/RouterOS authority, known topology and a recovery management path are required. Preserve existing router configuration before managed changes.

Prepare a new MikroTik using WinBox

Use this path for a new router before it serves a production network. A setup restart is normally manageable at this stage; still preserve your management connection and avoid interrupting an unrelated existing network.

  1. Connect through the manufacturer's supported local management method and identify the correct router.
  2. Set a strong administrator password and confirm firmware compatibility.
  3. Record physical ports and identify WAN, customer LAN/access-point ports and management access.
  4. Establish a reachable management address and verify internet/upstream routing where needed.
  5. Create the dedicated BryanNet API account and restrict access using RouterOS API access, account policy and firewall hardening.
  6. Confirm the BryanNet runtime can connect.
  7. Add the router and apply the supported shipped Desired State for the intended topology.
  8. Test the resulting hotspot using Validate hotspot login, provisioning and router health.

WinBox preparation should establish safe access and network prerequisites. Do not run a full manual hotspot setup merely to duplicate the components BryanNet's preset will create.

A preset can affect bridges, addresses, pools, DHCP, hotspot resources, DNS and NAT. Match it to the actual ports and existing default configuration before applying. Do not assume a factory reset is required or that one preset is suitable for every hardware layout.

Record any reboot requested by firmware or configuration changes. After reconnecting, check management address, API credentials and the completed operation before moving on.
