Hotspot captive portal login issues
Prerequisites and authority
Start with read-only checks and authorized records. Capture evidence before changes. Stop and escalate when data replacement, financial changes or wider outages are possible.
Captive portal or hotspot login fails
Basic
Confirm the device joins the correct SSID, receives an address and uses hotspot credentials. Open a plain HTTP test page or the organization's provided portal address when captive detection does not open automatically; do not enter credentials into an unrelated page.
Intermediate
Check DHCP, DNS, hotspot server/profile, portal reachability and relevant allowed/walled-garden paths. A certificate error or HTTPS interception problem is different from invalid credentials. Verify the account is active and provisioned.
Advanced
Inspect the managed configuration and router logs. Compare another test device to identify MAC randomization, private DNS/VPN or client captive-detection behavior. Check callback/backend paths where the portal depends on BryanNet.
Do not disable hotspot authentication broadly or edit payments to resolve a portal rendering problem. Correct the narrow network/configuration issue and test login, redirect, internet and session visibility.
If the required portal paths or firmware behavior are unclear, preserve configuration and escalate with device/network details and redacted router evidence.
